Ilhéus
is one of the oldest city's of Brazil, founded in 1534 the town can proudly
look back at almost 500 years of history and culture.
Ilhéus
became famous for their cocoa production which at the beginning of last
century generated an extraordinary wealth throughout the whole region.
At
the zenit of Ilhéus splendor she became well known as the”Princess of
the south”
After
the golden aera the decadence,a
desase infected the plantations and the glory days were gone.
Today
the typical architecture of this "belle epoque" can still be
contemplated.
Ilhéus
became also unforgettable thanks to Jorge Amado,
Brazilians "Hemingway" who wrote his best and worldwide
known books in Ilheus.
